Abstract

1337978 Printing machines STRACHAN & HENSHAW Ltd 19 April 1971 [10 March 1970] 11479/70 Heading B6C [Also in Division B2] Dampening apparatus, e.g. for the moistening of paper or other webs printing plates in lithographic machines comprises a weir 25 over which dampening liquid spills, and projections 18 on a rotor 15 cutting into the liquid as it passes over the weir to project a spray 37 of dampening liquid. The rotor 15 comprises a number of discs of thin sheet material mounted on a core 16 and separated by spacers. The projections 18 on the discs have arcuate ends 20 concentric with the rotor axis 19 and are circumferentially rigid. The discs are mounted so that the projections on one disc are circumferentially staggered with respect to those on adjacent discs. Excess liquid spilling over the weir 25 falls into a trough 40 having an outlet opening 41 leading to the sump 31. On the front wall 42 of the trough 40 shutters 43 are mounted, each individually vertically adjustable to intercept the spray 37 whereby the distribution of the liquid received by the printing plate across its axial width can be adjusted.
