1337840 Aliphatic monocarboxylic acids BP CHEMICALS INTERNATIONAL Ltd 11 May 1972 [11 May 1971] 14164/71 Heading C2C In the preparation of aliphatic mono-carboxylic acids (1-4 C) by oxidation of paraffins in the liquid phase with molecular oxygen at elevated temperatures, the light ends, water and aliphatic acids are removed from the reaction products and the residue is flash distilled and the distillate is recycled to the oxidation stage. The flash distillation is under conditions so that no succinic acid is present in the distillate for example with a still base temperature of 200‹ to 240‹ C. at atmospheric pressure.
