Abstract
1337606 Making bolts T L McKAY 20 April 1971 [20 April 1970] 10216/71 Heading B3A [Also in Division F2] A self-locking screw or bolt 10 comprises in its leading end a longitudinal bore 15 eccentric relative to the central axis of the screw to form an externally threaded circumferential wall of varying thickness, the wall having at least two outwardly displaced portions 30 located one on either side of the thinnest part of the wall, less than 90 degrees from the diameter 24 passing through the thinnest and thickest parts of the wall, the screw thread 12 conforming with the displacements. The displacements are formed by forcing a punch 25 into the bore 15. A counterbore 14 which freely accepts the punch prevents deformation of the first two or three turns of the thread 12 to allow easy starting of the screw in a nut or threaded bore. The punch may be square (Fig. 7, not shown).
