Abstract

1336886 Rollers ALLEGHENY LUDLUM INDUSTRIES Inc 19 April 1971 [20 April 1970] 9991/71 Heading F2U [Also in Divisions B8 and F4] A conveyer particularly for elongated workpieces undergoing heat treatment in a furnace comprises rollers with workpiece-retaining surfaces 6, 14 which are less than 45 degrees to the roller axis 8 and more than 90 degrees relative to each other. The surface 14 consists of two surfaces 17, 18, surface 17 being at a slope B which is less than the slope C of the surface 18, The surface 18 extends into a curved retaining surface 26 and the surface 6 forms part of a sleeve 10 secured to a roller body 2 by keys 12. A sleeve 16 for the other surfaces 17, 18 26 is similarly secured. In use, a plurality of the rollers are skew mounted such that a workpiece W tends to climb up the surfaces 17, 18. In sliding down again, the impact aids in straightening a workpiece which is not straight. The rollers may be motor driven. In a modification, Figs. 3, 3a (not shown), a sleeve portion (16<SP>1</SP>) is made elliptical to save space and weight.
