Abstract

1336659 Hand tool handles JAKOB SCHMID SOHNE and WILHELM ABT GmbH 18 Oct 1971 [30 Oct 1970] 48311/71 Heading B4K A tool handle, e.g. for a fork, hoe, pick, spade, shovel or hammer, comprising an elongate element, at one end of which is a hand grip and the other end of which is formed as a shank adapted for the connection of the tool directly thereto, said shank portion being the most severely stressed portion of the handle when in use, has at least the hand grip portion made of wood and at least the shank portion made of plastics material. In a fork handle, as shown the joint between the wooden portion 12 and a plastics shank portion 13 comprises a tapered spigot 12a and socket 13a secured together by adhesion, riveting or pinning. The plastics material may be reinforced with textile or mineral fibres, metal pins or other strengthening materials.
