Abstract

1409230 Handtool handles; hammers STANLEY WORKS 23 July 1974 [12 Sept 1973] 32512/74 Headings B4K and B4C A percussive tool such as a hammer has a reinforced fibre handle 40 an end portion of which extends into an eye 20 in the tool head 10 and is bonded to the head 10 by a resin 66, and a trim collar 46 disposed around the handle at the entrance end 22 of the eye the trim collar having a shouldered trim portion 50, a plug portion 48 which is disposed in the eye 20 and preferably also a plurality of axially extending legs 56. The trim collar which is preferably of plastics material serves to align the handle in the eye and to seal the entrance 22 for the resin bonding step and provides a neat finished appearance at the juncture of the handle and head. Metal filler pieces 70 may be embedded in the resin in the tapering annular space around the handle to provide increased strength when the hammer is used for nail pulling.
