Abstract

1336603 Spray carburetters ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 27 Nov 1970 [1 Dec 1969] 56428/70 Heading F1B Fuel injection system for a spark-ignition I.C. engine having continuous fuel injection into the induction pipe comprises an induction pipe section containing a flow measuring element, an induction pipe section containing a butterfly valve and a flexible connection between the two sections of pipe, the measuring element being movable against a restoring force proportionally to the amount of air flowing through the induction pipe to control the opening of a fuel metering valve. Air is drawn through a filter 2, past a plate 4 into an induction pipe section 3 which is connected by a flexible section 5 to a further section 6 of the induction pipe, which contains a butterfly throttle valve 7. The plate 4 is secured to an arm 11 which is pivotally mounted on a pin 12 and has a part 13 which actuates a valve 15. The plate 4 is acted on by the flow of air into the induction pipe and opens valve 15 to deliver a metered quantity of fuel to the lines 24 which lead to respective manifold branches 9. A pump 18 draws fuel from a tank 20 and delivers it to the valve 15. The flexible section 5 of the induction pipe insulates the plate 4 from vibration existing at the induction manifold. The distance between the plate 4 and the throttle valve 7 is at least four times the diameter of the valve 7, so that turbulence created in the air-flow by the presence of plate 4 has disappeared when the air reaches the throttle valve 7.
