Abstract

1336566 Floating booms SECURICUM SA 25 June 1971 [25 June 1970 16 Dec 1970] 30877/70 and 59694/70 Addition to 1278938 Heading E1H A floating boom for containing oil slicks comprises flexibly coupled flexible cylindrical sections M in the form of a waterproof envelope filled with buoyant cellular beads of a copolymer of acryl nitrile styrene, from which envelope an integral flexible skirt 5 extends, the skirt having a ballast chain or rope (not shown) in or at a tunnel extending along its bottom edge. Strain taking wires, straps, tapes or ropes 11a extend along one or both sides of the skirt being coupled at the section joints through eyes 45. Stirrups 50 to which mooring lines may be attached, depend from the junction of at least some of the sections. The flexible couplings between the sections may be in the form of end spigot and socket connections secured together by lacing (Fig. 1 not shown) and/or end flaps which may be laced or bolted together (Fig. 2 not shown). Means for securing a tow rope to an end of a boom section may be provided (Figs. 5 and 6 not shown).
