Abstract

1336168 Tube expanders IMPERIALEASTMAN CORP 7 Oct 1970 [14 Nov 1969 2 Jan 1970] 47664/70 Heading B3J A tube fitting insert 11, Fig. 3, is expanded in the end of a tube 13 by a punch 10 having axially-spaced expansion sections 23, 24, 25, 26 of progressively increasing diameter. The punch is mounted on a rack 45 operated manually by a pinion. The fitting includes a shell 14 and a surrounding nut 15 by which it is coupled to an adapter 48 on the end of the rack housing 43. A spring-pressed ball 132, Fig. 9, engages teeth 128 in the rack 129 which is retained in the tool by a stop pin 135. The end of the tube is visible through recesses (164), Fig. 12 (not shown), in the shell (114) after expansion of the insert.
