Abstract

1,207,464. Tube expanders. GIRLING Ltd. 28 April, 1969 [29 June, 1968], No. 31198/68. Heading B3J. A tool for flaring the end of a pipe 40 comprising a clamp body 10 incorporating a pair of relatively movable jaws 11, 12, a die 30 and means for moving the die and jaws relatively towards each other is characterized in that the inner end of a rotatable spindle 20 for moving the die 30 is received in a recess 22 in a thrust member 21 acting on the die and acts on the thrust member through a thrust pad 26 and a metal ball 25 which seats in a conical base 22a of the recess. The die comprises a cylindrical body part 31 having a central spigot 35. A conical recess 36 in the die body 31 co-operates with a similar recess 37 in the jaws 11, 12. In a modification (Fig. 2) a domed pip integral with the thrust pad 26 takes the place of the ball. (For Figures see next page.)
