Abstract
1334919 Junction boxes WALTER ROSE KG 23 Sept 1971 [26 June 1971] 44359/71 Heading H2E An enclosure for a cable splice comprises a two part housing consisting of a hood 1 and a base 2, cable lead-in openings being cut to size using preformed concentric scorings in the base (Fig. 3, not shown), each cable entry being sealed by elastomeric member 12 located between clamping member 9 and the splice space. The two parts may be held together by member 18 in the form of two semi-circular yokes hinged together at one end and screwed together at the other (Fig. 2, not shown), 0-ring 23 providing a seal at the abutting surfaces. Alternatively nuts and bolts may be used (Fig. 4, not shown) or a union nut carried by the hood may be screwed on to the base (Fig. 3, not shown). As shown the cable clamp 9 is a sleeve formed by two interfitting parts providing a tapering outer surface to correspond with a tapering passage in base 2. Clamping and sealing are achieved by turning screw ring 11, washer 11<SP>1</SP> being provided between it and sealing member 12. Alternatively (Fig. 3, not shown) one screw ring acts directly on the clamping member and a second acts on a sealing member located on a body interposed between base and hood. In another embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) a plate is located and bolted in an opening formed by cutting the hood at a scored portion, the plate having cable lead in apertures, clamping and sealing arrangements similar to those of the base.
