Abstract
1334880 Gas turbine A P PEDRICK 12 March 1971 6667/71 Heading F1G [Also in Divisions F4 and H2] A gas turbine comprises an impeller to force air radially inwards, a turbine rotor through which air heated by an axial flame escapes radially outwards and a cylindrical sleeve joining the impeller and turbine rotor, the sleeve being accessible so that the turbine may be started by winding a cord around the sleeve and pulling a free end of the cord. The flame may arise from combustion of a mixture of carbon monoxide, produced by partial combustion of waste material and vapour from paraffin heated by the partial combustion. The exhaust gases may pass from the turbine rotor through a heat exchanger to heat air before it enters the impeller. Centrifugally actuated, spring opposed shutters on the turbine rotors throttle the exhaust gases to control rate of combustion of the flame.
