Abstract
1476604 Steam generator FOSTER WHEELER ENERGY CORP 28 Aug 1975 [28 Aug 1974] 35562/75 Heading F4A In a steam generator a furnace section 38 and a convection section are placed within a pressure vessel 12 and the exhaust gases for the steam generator exit through an exhaust drum 100 to drive a supercharger comprising a motor 112, a compressor 104 and a turbine 102 such that hot air is forced downwardly through an air duct 108 in the air space 74 between the pressure vessel 12 and the convection section, the air mixing with fuel at the burners 96, 98. During start-up, the compressor 104 is driven by the motor 112 to compress air and feed it through the air duct 108 and the annular air spaces 74, 110 to the burners 96, 98. By this means the compressed air raises the temperature of the structure within the pressure vessel 12 so that within a short time the burners 96, 98 can be started up without the creation of very large temperature gradients. A feed water line 20 leads through an economizer 24, provided between the furnace section and the base of the convection section, through evaporator tubes 36 which envelop the furnace section 38. The convection section includes a stack of heat exchangers 56, 68, 60 which enable steam to be generated to exit through a steam line 82. The section 78 of the heat exchanger constitutes a superheater which is screened from the hot gases by the economizer 24.
