1334186 A gas operated toggle-action pistol W E PERRINE 27 Oct 1971 49895/71 Heading F3C A gas-operated toggle action weapon has a bolt 29, Fig. 5, which is movable to and from the firing chamber 33 of gun barrel 15, a toggle being interconnected between the bolt 29 and gun frame 10 and comprising a pair of links 35, 37 connected together by a pin 36. The link 35 is connected to the bolt 29 by a pin 34 and the link 37 is connected to the frame 16 by a pin 38. The link 37 is also connected to a pushrod 45 by a pin 48. The toggle is urged towards its aligned position, as indicated in full line, by a spring 44 mounted on the rod 45, the latter extending into handle 11 and a bullet 28 is in the firing position in the barrel 15. The toggle 35, 37 is tripped from over-centre position by gas pressure from the gun barrel when the gun is fired. This is effected by a cam 50 which is connected to a piston-rod 51 slidably mounted in a bore 52 in a clamp 20, the bore 52 communicates with a port 54 in the barrel 15, via a port 53 in the clamp 20. The cam 50 is held in the retracted position shown in Fig. 6 by a spring 55 until moved by the gas pressure so that a surface 57 of the cam engages the pin 36 and forces it below dead-centre line 36a. The movement of the cam 50 is limited by a pin 50b, the pin 36 being at position 60 and the spring 44 being compressed. The bolt 29 compresses a recoil spring 61, Fig. 4, and having a lug 62, has its movement arrested by a stop 63 on the frame 10. The spring 55 returns the piston 51 and the cam 50 to the retracted position shown in Fig. 6 and the bolt 29 and toggle are returned by the springs 44 and 61. This completes the firing cycle and prepares the gun for the next firing, a second bullet 28 having been transferred from a magazine 14 by the bolt 29 and positioned in the chamber 33 of the barrel 15. The latter is removable, being retained by a flange 17 thereof in a semicircular bore 18 and a groove 19, Fig. 9 (not shown), in the frame 10 and by a semicircular bore 22 and a groove 23 in the clamp 20. One end of the clamp is pivotally mounted to the frame 10 by a pin 21, Fig. 5, and the other end is secured to the frame by screws 25a.
