Abstract

1333271 Coating by diffusion GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 23 July 1971 [21 Aug 1970] 34650/71 Heading C7F A method of producing an aluminium-containing coating on a Ni-base super alloy article comprises heating the article in a box-like retort to 900‹ C- 1100‹ C, preferably 1050‹ C in the presence of hydrogen, a filler, an aluminium source, and a halide carrier. The carrier is AlCl 2 , NH 4 F, NH 4 Cl or NaF, and the aluminium source is FeAl 2 , Fe 2 Al 5 , FeAl 3 or a mixture thereof. The article is placed in a bed comprising 5-40% Al source, 0À1-0À4% carrier, and 60-95% Al 2 O 3 as a filler, and is heated for 3 hours in a hydrogen atmosphere at a maximum of 10 psi gauge pressure. The coating consists of nickel aluminides.
