Abstract

1333178 Filling sacks REED INTER. NATIONAL Ltd 8 Aug 1972 [9 Sept 1971] 42188/71 Heading B8C Apparatus for securing a valve sack in position on a filling spout 2 is characterized in that the spout includes a movable wall section 4 movable between a first partially open position and a second open position, a clamping member 19 operable to clamp the sack to the spout and fluid pressure actuating means coupled to both the spout and the clamping member and so arranged that in operation, the clamping member and the movable wall section of the spout are actuated to make co-ordinated and predetermined movements for engaging and disengaging the sack. As shown, in which the spout section 4 is pivoted to the base of a housing 9, an air cylinder 11 in the housing 9 is slidable in mounting 13 and a piston-rod 14 projecting from one end of the cylinder is connected through linkages 15, 16 and links 18 to clamping members 19 engageable with a fixed wall section 3 of the spout. The other end of the cylinder 11 is connected through a yoke 25 to the movable wall section 4. Each clamping member comprises a spring-loaded synthetic rubber pad 21 mounted on an arm 22 slidable through the link 18. In operation, a valve of a valve sack is applied over the partially open spout, a trip switch (not shown) is operated to admit air to cylinder 11 which moves to the right to open the section 4 and causes the clamps 19 to grip the sack about the section 3. The sack may then be inflated by an air blast before filling. (For Figures see next column.)
