1189942 Fluid-pressure apparatus AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO Ltd 28 Nov 1968 [11 Jan 1968] 1552/68 Index F2S 31 [Also in Division A4] A pneumatic device 16 comprises a cylinder 17 in which slides a piston 21 to compress or expand a mass of gas (e.g. between the piston and a closed end 18 of the piston) there being a locking device (e.g. arms 33 pivoted to the cylinder and having ratchet teeth 34 to engage corresponding teeth 26 on the piston rod) to prevent relative motion between the piston and cylinder at any position thereof, the locking means being held by application of the gas pressure (e. g. via passage 37 on composite piston 28, 29 having cam faces 35 acting urging the arms inwards) and being opened by releasing means (e.g. a fluid operated piston and cylinder or a cam device to force the abutments 38 on the arms apart). The device 16 may be used to adjust the tilt of the back (12) of a vehicle seat, Fig. 1 (not shown).
