Abstract
1332787 Water-jet propulsion J SAMUEL WHITE & CO Ltd 16 Dec 1970 [18 Dec 1969] 61734/69 Heading B7V A water-jet propulsion unit 2 particularly useful for an amphibious vehicle includes a passage leading to discharge orifice 10 and an arcuate deflector 9 is movable from a first position in which it does not obstruct flow from the orifice to a second position in which it defines a smoothly curved path from the passage to a second discharge orifice 15 with a different direction of discharge. The pivot axis 13 of the deflector is offset from the centre line of the passage and goes through or is close to the central radius 21 of the arc of the deflector. In the embodiment shown two propulsion units are used and the vehicle can be steered by adjusting the positions of the deflectors 9.
