1330288 Packaging sheets CX PROCESSING LABORATORIES Inc 19 April 1971 [8 April 1970 3 March 1971] 25862/71 Heading B8C Photographic films, prints and similar articles are packed in carriers formed from multileaf flexible carrier stock by means of apparatus which feeds the stock to a packing station, progressively opens the leaves of the stock, inserts the articles between the opened leaves, recloses the leaves beyond the packing station and severs the stock into sections to form individual filled carriers open along three sides. As shown, the carrier is produced from a stock strip 100 which is fed from a bin 104 or from a roll (130), Fig. 7 (not shown), to a chain conveyer 106 having pins 108 which engage holes 86 along the formed edge 62 of the strip. Leaf spreader elements 116 spread the leaves of the strip apart as the latter moves towards a loading station 120, 124 where suitable mechanism deposits negatives 122 and prints 128 between the leaves at a location along the strip between successive score lines 102 which define each carrier length, which is then torn off at a score line 102. In another form, Fig. 5 (not shown), the holes 86 are replaced by slots (90). In the arrangement according to Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), the score lines are omitted and the loaded carrier sections are sheared from the strip by a shear device (148), (150), the length of each section being defined by marks (129) which are sensed by a photo-cell device (142). In another arrangement, Fig. 13 (not shown), the front leaf (306) of the carrier is shorter than the adjacent leaf the top of which is used for labelling &c.
