Abstract

1367543 Endless conveyers; wrapping FMC CORP 5 Sept 1972 [12 Nov 1971] 41070/72 Headings B8A and B8C A packaging machine 20 receives articles A from an endless chain conveyer 22 which, by means of an endless chain transfer conveyer 36, receives the articles from a belt conveyer 34. The drive for all the conveyers is common but the speed of the belt conveyer 34 is higher than that at which the articles are removed by the conveyer 36; the speed of conveyer 36 is lower than that of conveyer 22. For guiding the articles in a single column, a stationary member 128 and an adjustable fence 132 are provided above the belt 68 of the conveyer 34. The transfer conveyer 36 has L-shaped pushers 38 and a frame member 98 is adjustable about the axis of a stub shaft 94. The chain reach 40a of the conveyer 36 is guided by a rail 104. The conveyer 22 has pusher lugs 50 which, during their conveying, run, pass between two plates 158, 160 which support the articles. A plate 150 supports the feed run of the chain 48 of the converyer 22. The machine 20 comprises a former 26 fed from a web roll WR or RR. The former 26 produces a tube of which the edges are heatsealed to receive the articles, the tube then passing into a transverse severing and sealing station 30.
