Abstract
1,166,031. Depositing bacon slices &c. on to cards; sheet-feeding. CHEMETRON CORP. 10 Aug., 1966 [21 Oct., 1965], No. 35827/66. Headings B8C and B8R. Cards, particularly supporting inserts in a package of bacon, each with a tab or flap folded against them, are fed on to a conveyer, the tabs being opened during this feeding to enable the package contents e.g. bacon slices to be deposited on the cards. The tabs are then folded back over the slices. In one arrangement cards 11 with tabs 12 are fed between rollers 24 and 25 by a reciprocating pusher 32. Fingers 29, 30 of a guide plate 28 engage the cards' outer margins 15 and 16 so the card tends to bend away from the tab, the rollers then completely unfolding it before it is deposited on a conveyer 22. Bacon slices 31 are fed on to the card by a conveyer 20. In another embodiment for use where the tab extends to the card sides a guide (35), Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), directs the card leading edge to the rollers, but once through the rollers the leading edge connects with a switch (37) causing the guide to rise and so not deflect the tab, the rollers thus unfold the tab. Another modification incorporates a vacuum wheel (40), Fig. 9 (not shown), sited in advance of the feed rollers which grips the tab's upper surface and thus unfolding it before it passes between the rollers. The tab may be the same size as the card.
