Abstract
1329840 Treating exhaust gases SOC NATIONALE D ETUDE ET DE CONSTRUCTION DE MOTEURS D'AVIATION 29 Dec 1970 [29 Dec 1969] 61693/70 Heading F1B In a device for burning constituents in exhaust gases of heat engines gas, to which air may have been added, passes via annular channel 12 between an inner electrode 7a and a conducting wall 3 to a combustion chamber whose wall 4 forms an outer electrode insulated from wall 3 by a joint 6, electric sparks 19 occurring between the electrodes. The inner electrode is connected to wall 3 by conducting supports which may be swirl vanes 8. The inner electrode may be a hollow funnel having swirl vanes 22. In another embodiment, Fig.4 (not shown) suitable for large gas flow rates, an auxiliary electrode (30) is provided axially with the inner electrode and attached thereto and a flame stabilizer (33) is situated downstream of the electrodes. A further embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown) has an auxiliary electrode (34) adjacent the downstream end of the inner electrode to act as a starting electrode.
