Abstract

1329825 Lining ingot moulds FOSECO TRADING AG 7 Aug 1970 [31 Oct 1969] 53564/69 Heading B3F [Also in Divisions C3 and D2] A method of lining the head of an ingot mould or hot top, comprises applying thereto slabs or sleeves formed of a composition comprising a particulate and/or fibrous heat-insulating material and a binder comprising a thermoplastic resin together with a second component which on heating will react with the thermoplastic resin to cause it to thermoset, the binders and their relative quantities being selected so that on initial heating the thermoplastic resin softens and so causes the product to become mouldable or more easily mouldable, and on further heating a thermosetting resin system forms and hardens and so causes the product to acquire a rigid condition, heating the slab or sleeve to cause the thermoplastic resin to soften, pressing the softened shape to conform to the contours of the mould or hot top structure and thereafter continuing the heat treatment to cause the shapes to set and harden in situ.
