Abstract

1,270,936. Lining mould. FOSECO TRADING A.G. 8 Aug., 1969 [16 Aug., 1968], No. 39407/68. Heading B3F. A method of lining a cavity, particularly a mould cavity, comprising applying to the cavity surface a self-supporting deformable refractory fibrous mat composition and applying a pressure so as to permanently deform the mat to conform to the contours of the cavity surface. The examples disclose the lining of cavities using an expandable bladder or an expandable former to apply pressure. Mats are prepared, by dewatering a 1% dispersion of aluminium silicate fibre in 30% colloidal silica or from aluminium silicate fibre, "novolac" resin and methanol. The lining is used in the risers of casting moulds and as a hot-topping insert for ingot moulds.
