Abstract
The base of an ingot mould is coated with a slurry comprising at least one refractory selected from vitreous silica, crystalline silica, aluminium silicate, alumina, graphite, zirconium silicate, magnesium silicate and clay, said refractory being suspended in a binder comprising a colloidal silica sol and silicic acid sol and allowed to dry. The binder may be used with other binders such as ethyl silicate, aluminium phosphate and sodium silicate. The coating prevents erosion during pouring and adherence to solidified ingots.ALSO:To prevent erosion during pouring and adherence to solidified ingots, the base of an ingot mould is coated with a slurry comprising at least one refractory selected from vitreous silica, crystalline silica, aluminium silicate, alumina, graphite, zirconium silicate, magnesium silicate and clay, said refractory being suspended in a binder comprising a colloidal silica sol. and silicic acid sol. and allowed to dry. The binder may be used with other binders such as ethyl silicate, aluminum phosphate and sodium silicate.
