Abstract

1,161,109. Mould and core luting; ingot moulds. FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd. 23 April, 1968 [4 Sept., 1967], No. 40265/67. Heading B3F. [Also in Division C3] Joints between parts of foundry moulds and cores and ingot moulds are luted by applying a sealant composition in a thin-walled flexible and rupturable tube, and assembling the parts together, with rupture of the tube. A length of the filled tube may be shaped and laid on a stool, to be ruptured by receiving the ingot mould body. A hot top may be sealed to a mould, or mould or core halves sealed together. The sealant may comprise a crushed refractory material, e.g. grog, zircon, silica, magnesia or alumina, and a binder e.g. a thermosetting resin, resin-catalyst compositions, colloidal silica, sodium silicate, or aluminium phosphate; or the composition may include or substantially consist of a clay, blue clay, e.g. clay, or bentonite. Soap may be included. The tube may be made of polythene, polyvinyl chloride, rubber, or sausage skin. The sausage-shaped filled tube may be continuous, cut into separate sausages, or in the form of a string of sausages.
