Abstract
1506506 Tundishes FOSECO TRADING AG 9 Aug 1976 [8 Aug 1975] 33208/75 Heading F4B In a tundish for use in continuous casting and comprising an outer casing with a permanent refractory lining and an expendable inner lining made up of a plurality of refractory lining slabs, a paper covering is provided over the joints between the slabs of the expendable lining. Preferably the paper covering is in the form of a plurality of sealing strips applied over the joints, the paper being held in place by a refractory cement or sealant or an inorganic or organic adhesive. The paper used may be Kraft paper or newsprint and may be a single layer paper or a laminate. Although the paper is eventually destroyed, its initial presence as the tundish is filled is said to greatly diminish the risk of finning and so prolong tundish life. A loose-fill of particulate refractory material, e.g. sand, may be provided between the permanent lining and the expendable lining. The joints between the slabs of the expendable lining may be mortared or left dry.
