Abstract

1329222 Air rectification process KOBE STEEL Ltd 4 Jan 1971 [9 Jan 1970] 231/71 Heading F4P In a compressed air rectification process wherein feed air in a line 3 is cooled in reversing heat exchangers 4, 5 and liquefied at 9 before entering a column 8 having a reflux-forming condenser-evaporator 16 from the vapour space of which oxygen-rich vapour is withdrawn at 19 and is divided by a by-pass valve 32 into a major portion 20 which is turbine-expanded at 26 and then added at 29 to the minor by-pass portion 33, the valve 32 is opened to a degree dependent on an increase in liquid level on the evaporator side 15 and also dependent on a predetermined pressure difference at 15 resulting from a change in the degree of valve opening. Valve 32 is controlled by gas pressure and liquid level indicating means P1C, L1C respectively responsive to electrical signals from transmitters 101, 102. Product oxygen-rich gas leaves exchanger 4 in a line 31, product nitrogen gas is withdrawn from column 8 and exchanger 4 through a line 36 and liquid nitrogen may be withdrawn at 35 into a weigh vessel 34.
