1353967 Cold separation of gas mixtures TIOGA WELLS CORP 8 Nov 1971 [9 Nov 1970] 51762/71 Heading F4P Compressed natural gas having been freed of higher hydrocarbons and water by passage through a conventional conditions system 10 is separated into a methane - rich product and a nitrogen-rich product by cooling in an indirect heat exchanger 17 traversed by separated nitrogen and methane in lines 35, 33, further cooling at 19 in indirect contact with liquid methane withdrawn at 25 from a first separator 24, valve or turbine expanding at 21, heating at 23 by nitrogen withdrawn at 28 from a second separator 27 and feeding at 30 together with the so-cooled nitrogen in line 29 to the separator 24; product nitrogen-rich gas being withdrawn at 35 from separator 24 and product liquid methane being withdrawn at 31 from separator 27 which operates at a higher temperature than separator 24, pressurized at 32 and vaporized at 17.
