Abstract
1,260,624. Air rectification process. MESSER GRIESHEIM G.m.b.H. 14 April, 1970 [6 May, 1969], No. 17754/70. Heading F4P. A three stage air rectification process for the production of argon-free liquid oxygen comprises passing compressed feed air at the dew point through a line 6 to a column 1, withdrawing oxygen-rich liquid therefrom through a line 14 and feeding it at a reduced pressure to a mid point of a second column 2, withdrawing from column 2 argon-free liquid oxygen product through a line 10 and an argon-rich gas through a line 9 and passing it at reduced pressure to the third column 3, from which is withdrawn at 11 argon-free oxygen product which is added to that in line 10, and an argon-rich head gas which is returned through a line 4 and a pump 12 to the column 2 an oxygen-lean level thereof; the working pressure of column 3 being 0À3 to 0À5 atmosphere below that of column 2.
