Abstract

1328634 Wall covering IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 4 Dec 1970 [12 Dec 1969] 60763/69 Heading B5N A wall covering material comprises a paper sheet to one surface of which is attached a melded fabric, i.e. an assembly of conjugate, e.g. bi-component, fibres or filaments which have been consolidated by activation of the potential adhesive properties of at least one component of the conjugate fibres or filaments. The melded fabric may be a continuous sheet or may be applied to only portions of paper. The melded fabric may weigh between 2 and 5 ounces per square yard and suitably comprises fibres of between 1À5 and 18 denier, e.g. staple fibres of 1 to 4 inches long. The melded fabric suitably contains at least 5% of said conjugate fibres. The fibres may be crimped and the assembly of fibres may be needle punched and embossed between rollers before consolidation. The melded fabric, which may comprise polyester, polyamide or polyolefin fibres, may be united to the paper, which may contain nylon, rayon or acrylic in addition to cellulose fibres, by means of adhesive, e.g. cellulose derivatives, starch, starch esters or thermoplastics such as polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl chloride or polyethylene. The exposed paper surface to be attached to the wall may be coated with a synthetic resin or wax and/or an activatable adhesive.
