Abstract

1328216 Liquid fuel burners W BRODLIN 13 Oct 1970 [14 Oct 1969 11 Aug 1970] 48596/70 Heading F4T A liquid fuel burner for producing a substantially noiseless, soot free blue flame comprises an air supply tube 2 which converges towards its outlet 4, an oil nozzle 6 positioned along the longitudinal axis of the tube 2 and having its tip 5 lying in the plane of the outlet 4, and a hollow distributer 8, having a plurality of circular holes 10, positioned downstream of, with a convex wall facing, and in axial alignment with, the outlet 4, the crosssectional area of the outlet being less than the projected area of the distributer parallel to the plane of the outlet and the arrangement being such that, in use, high velocity air leaves the supply tube 2 in a concentrated jet, substantially all of which impinges on the distributer. The distributer may be hemispherical, as shown, spherical, dish-shaped or cylindrical and is supported by a rod 9, the distance between the outlet and the distributer being adjustable. In an alternative embodiment a second distributer is mounted downstream of, and is isolated from, the first distributer and serves as an ionization probe.
