Abstract
1328178 Supply systems for electroslag refining INSTITUT ELEKTROSVARKI IMENI EO PATONA AKADEMII NAUK UKRAINSKOI SSR 9 Sept 1971 [11 Sept 1970 13 Nov 1970] 42013/71 Heading H2H Apparatus for the electroslag remelting of metal comprises consumable electrodes 1-6 positioned in a cooled mould and connected in groups by conductive bridges 9, at least one power supply transformer 11 being connected by bus-bars 10, 12 to the electrodes. The electrodes are positioned at the apices of a regular hexagon and diametrically opposite pairs of electrodes are each connected to the secondary winding of a respective single-phase transformer 11. The bridges 9 are water-cooled and the bus bars 12 are connected to a star point 13 connected to a central metal blank 7. The arrangement enables the melting rates of the electrodes to be equalized. In a modification, the bus bars 10, 12 are connected to the bridges such that the transformer secondary windings are connected in delta. A modification in which a single multiphase transformer is used is also described.
