Abstract

1327541 Walking beam furnaces SALEM CORP 7 Jan 1972 [8 March 1971] 805/72 Heading F4B A method for sealing and cooling a slot 16 between the stationary hearth 11 and a movable beam 15 in a walking beam furnace, which comprises injecting a plurality of air streams 26 into the slot 16 so that the streams are divided by their impingement on a side wall 17 of the slot. The part of the stream which is directed to the furnace hearth level is substantially in pressure equilibrium with the gases within the furnace.
