Abstract
1,240,840. Shaped coke. BERGWERKSVERBAND G.m.b.H. 10 July, 1968 [25 Aug., 1967; 28 Aug., 1967], No. 32985/68. Addition to 1,122,134. Heading CSE. In the method of making shaped coke articles according to the parent Specification, the articles are treated in a first stage at 500‹ to 750‹ C. with a hot particulate heat carrier. In both stages the carrier is preferably sand which is reoiroulated through a hot air lifter, and the second stage, which is operated at at least 800‹ C., is followed by one or more cooling stages employing, e.g. inert gas. The two heating stages may be side-by-side, Fig. 1 (not shown), or superimposed, and the second stage is preferably above the first, Fig. 2 (not shown). In this embodiment, the sand passes in series through both stages and on as cooling medium to the cooling stage before being recirculated to the second (upper) stage. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), fine coke is the cooling medium in a second cooling stage. Desulphurization of the articles may be effected by using, e.g. MnOg, ZnO or CaO, wholly or partly as the heat carrier, and/or by supplying reducing gases to one or both heating stages. It is stated that the apparatus may be operated under increased pressure.
