Abstract

1326675 Balun transformers RCA CORPORATION 19 April 1971 [25 June 1970] 24941/71 Heading H1W A balun comprises an unbalanced coaxial input line 10 having two quarter-wave portions 14, 15 separated by a gap 13 in the outer conductor, the second portion 15 forming an opencircuited, low-impedance stub in series with the gap 13; and two coaxial output lines 20, 22 having outer conductors connected to and coterminous with the input portions 14, 15, the output lines being connected in parallel across the gap 13 by conductors 24, 25 and together providing a balanced output, the co-terminous quarter-wave portions of the input and output lines being surrounded by a short-circuiting cylinder 26. The specification gives examples of suitable impedance values for the various lines and the stub and shows that the balun has wide-band properties about a central frequency defined by the length of the quarter-wave sections 14, 15.
