Abstract

Exhaust-silencers.-A silencer comprises two co-axial tubes, the annular space between them being divided longitudinally by straight or helical ribs or vanes 6 on the inner tube. The inlet 3 faces the coned end 5 of the inner tube, and the outlet 7 is annular and may be inclined to the axis. In one form, Fig. 1, the ribs 6 are divided into longitudinal sets a, b, the ribs of set a being opposite the spaces between those of set b. In a modulation, Fig. 5, the ribs are continuous and of unequal length, terminating on a helical line, and the outer tube 1 is longer than the inner one.
