Abstract

1326611 Transferring fluid between land and ship BETHLEHEM STEEL CORP 14 Aug 1970 [28 Aug 1969] 39345/70 Heading B8E [Also in Divisions B2 and F2] Fluid is transferred from a storage unit 10 on the bottom 11 of a body of water to a floating vessel 27 through a pipe 28 extending through a rigid elongated member 13. The member 13 comprises an open-ended cylinder with a buoyant air chamber 22 and is connected to the unit 10 by a universal joint 14 having pivot pins 17, 19. Flexible pipes 29, 30 complete the fluid connections between the unit 10 and the pipe 28 and the pipe 28 and the vessel 27. A cable 26 is connected between the vessel 27 and a fastener 25 at the upper end of the pipe 28. The elongated member 13 is placed solely in tension when the vessel 27 reaches its limit of movement, the storage unit 10 acting as an anchor.
