Abstract

1325372 Beacons METALLINE SIGNS Ltd 20 Aug 1971 [26 May 1970] 25141/70 Heading F4R A beacon lamp comprises a two compartment battery housing 10, containing a battery 14 and control means 23, for a gas discharge tube 33 contained within a lamp housing 30, having a transparent portion 31, the housing 30 being detachably secured to housing 10, the tube 33 being connected to contacts 28, 29 located at the base of housing 30 and engageable with contacts 26, 27 on the top of housing 10, contacts 26, 27 being connectible to battery 14. The tube 33 may be of the cold cathode type, and a flasher unit may be included for operating the tube intermittently. A photo-cell may also be used automatically to operate the tube during darkness or mains power failure. Tubes giving different colour outputs may be used, e.g. on aircraft runways or road hazards. The transparent housing portion 31 may have a prismatic surface, and an interior reflective surface may be included on part 32 of the housing 30.
