Abstract

1391061 Traffic bollards C J GOLDSON 9 May 1972 [10 Feb 1971] 4337/71 Heading E1G [Also in Division F4] A portable or fixed traffic bollard comprises a main body portion 12 connected to a base portion 22 by a snap-fit or other releasable connection 18-20 which will yield on impact, the base portion containing an emergency light source which provides a warning light only when the portions 12, 22 are separated. As shown the bollard is normally illuminated by a resiliently-mounted mains or battery-powered light source 24 in a cast iron or plastics base 22 shining on reflective foil 16 at the upper end of a tubular translucent or opaque body 12-e.g. of polyethylene or polypropylene, the light source, Fig. 2 (not shown), comprising main (26) and warning (28), lamps controlled by a two-way switch 38 actuated on impact-release of the body 12 to change the continuous light source to a flashing amber or red warning light. It is stated that further light bulbs and/or fluorescent tubes and prismatic reflectors may be provided and that the micro-switch may control a warning light in a traffic control centre or a police station.
