Abstract

1325075 Polyester filaments FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 15 Oct 1970 [17 Oct 1969] 49065/70 Heading B5B [Also in Divisions C2 and C5] A fibre lubricating and finishing agent consists of an aqueous solution of a mixture of alkali metal salts of phosphoric acid mono- and di(C 6 -C 20 aliphatic) esters obtained by reacting P 2 O 5 with a mixture of phosphoric acid mono- and di(C 6 -C 20 aliphatic) esters in a P 2 O 5 : phosphoric esters molar ratio of less than 1 : 2, reacting the mixture of acid phosphoric esters so obtained with an amount of a C 6 -C 20 aliphatic alcohol equivalent to the amount of P 2 O 5 necessary to form a phosphoric ester mixture of desired composition and neutralizing the resulting product with an alkali metal base, e.g. a hydroxide, carbonate or bicarbonate. The preferred alkali metals are potassium and lithium and the solution may be applied by immersion of the fibre in the solution or by spraying. In an example an aqueous solution of the potassium salt of a mixture of phosphoric acid mono- and di-lauryl esters prepared as above is used to process filaments of a polycondensate of terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol by the melt spinding method, the filaments after leaving the spinning nozzle being immersed, on a lubricating roller, in the aqueous salt solution and then joined in a fibre strand of total titre about 10,000 den. and piled in a can. Several such strands are then jointly immersed in a heated bath containing a salt solution of the same composition and the strand is then squeezed, drawn and curled. The treated fibres show a good antistatic effect.
