Abstract

1324722 Discharging metallurgical ladles DIDIER-WERKE AG 3 Dec 1970 [4 Dec 1969] 57522/70 Heading F4B Discharge of molten metal from a ladle 1 operated by a slide valve 8 is facilitated by the insertion of a pellet 14 of exothermic material in the top of the pouring spout 9 and a layer 15 o f iron chips below a layer 16 of calcium silicide or ferrosilicon in the entry bush 4 and surface plate 6. Contact with molten metal melts the layers 15 and 16 and their heat of solution consists in heating components 406. Operation of the sliding valve brings the pellet 14 into contact with the metal plug, close it and on ignition it will melt said plug releasing the metal from the ladle. The pellet comprises:- KClO 4 11À8% Al 39À0% Fe 2 O 3 39À0% Mg 7À5% and C 2À7% with the addition of a phenolic resin binder. The pellet may thus be compacted into the required cylindrical shape and is wrapped with a self-adhesive paper tape 14<SP>1</SP>.
