Abstract
1324426 Programmed control of textile machines E MAYER 2 Dec 1970 [5 Dec 1969] 57153/70 Heading G3N [Also in Division D1] An electric pattern attachment for a circular knitting machine incorporates a rotary transmitter 200 coupled to the needle cylinder of the machine and providing a synchronised binary signal sequence indicative of the position of each selector member of each knitting system. Signals A-F, indicative of the knitting systems, are fed through a decoder 310 to a programme switchgear P1 which is manually settable by a switch S1 to a main pattern. Signals G-L, indicative of the selector members in a knitting system are fed through a decoder 320 to a programme switchgear PII manually set by a switch S6 for a pattern repeat. The pattern repeat is programmed on a plugboard 400, by the use of differently coloured, or shaped, plugs for yarn colours, and is scanned by a wale counter ZA and a course counter ZB, coupled to a programme switchgear PIII. The switchgear PIII is connected to outputs 1-4 of switchgear PI and the counter ZA is stepped by timing pulses from a generator G which also steps the switchgear PI through a differentiating device 500. The switchgear PIII is connected via a common output line 510 to intermediate stores Zsp1-Zsp36 having additional inputs from switchgears PI, PII. Connected to the output of each intermediate store Zsp are magnetic amplifiers MV1-MV36 controlling magnetic devices MA1-MA36 each associated with a knitting system of the machine having electromagnetically actuated selector members for the needle jacks, or needles in the needle cylinder of the machine. Additionally, a manually set switch S2, through a decoder 330, determines the stitch count of the desired pattern repeat width in stores Zsp1- Z sp 36, and a manually set switch S3 through a decoder 340 sets the repeat height in the counter ZB. Switches 54, 55 enable a selective doubling of the repeat height or width through a mirrorimage scanning of the pattern repeat programmed in the plugboard 400. A switch T1, connected to the stitch course counter ZB initiates operation of the pattern attachment and resets the counter ZB to its first counting step.
