Abstract

1324365 Soap tablets UNILEVER Ltd 5 Nov 1970 [7 Nov 1969 (2)] 54624/69 and 54625/69 Heading C5D A soap tablet is prepared by mixing an aqueous soap base with a substantially anhydrous slurry comprising essentially a mixture of one or more alkaline earth metal oxides and one or more alkyl aryl sulphonic acids, the alkyl groups of which contain from 8 to 22 carbon atoms, at least two moles of alkyl aryl sulphonic acid per mole of alkaline earth metal oxide being present in the slurry, and subsequently forming the intermixed soap base and slurry into tablets. The water content of the aqueous soap base is 7 to 13% and the amount of free alkyl aryl sulphonic acid, when present, constitutes 1 to 20% of the soap tablet. The free alkyl aryl sulphonic acid combines with the soap to release free fatty acid. The soaps are alkali metal salts of C 8 -C 20 fatty acids. Magnesium and calcium are the specified alkaline earth metals. Conventional additives may be present.
