Abstract

1324082 Diazotype materials and processes AGFA GEVAERT 10 Nov 1970 [30 Dec 1969] 63326/69 Heading G2C The coupler used in a one- or twocomponent diazotype process is a quaternary thiazolium salt of formula wherein R 1 is a substituted cycloalkyl, substituted aralkyl, alkyl, cycloalkyl, allyl, aralkyl or substituted alkyl group, R 2 and R 3 are hydrogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl, substituted aryl at least one R 2 and R 3 being other than hydrogen and X is an anion but is absent if R 1 contains an anion. The diazotype material for use in the process may contain, besides a diazonium salt and optionally the coupler specified above, urea, silica, allyl isothiocyanate, boric, phosphoric, ascorbic, tribromo- or trichloroacetic acid and gelatine. R 1 in the thiazolium salt may also be-A-CO-O-B-SO 2 - M wherein A is methylene or p-tolylene, B is -(CH 2 ) n where n is 1 to 4 and M is hydrogen, an anion group or a metal atom or -B-W-NU-V-B 1 wherein B is as above, B 1 is alkyl, amino, substituted amino or H when V is a single bond, W and V and carbonyl or sulphonyl or a single bond but at least one is sulphonyl. The material may be heat developed if it contains an alkali-generator such as urea.
