Abstract
1323129 Electrical insulator E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 25 Nov 1970 [26 Nov 1969 4 Nov 1970] 56130/70 Heading H2C An insulator has a covering of fluorocarbon resin 12, mountings 13, 14 at either end, and at least one conductve shield 15 of conical or disc (possibly perforated) shape. The core 11 may be of glass fibre reinforced epoxy resin, and the covering of a perfluoro carbon copolymer or polytetrafluoroethylene. The insulator may have a flash-over protection arrangement, e.g. a conductive disc (16) (Fig. 6, not shown) co-operating with the conductive shield. The covering may be prepared by extrusion of melt fabricable material or, if not melt fabricable, preformed and then sintered or can be a laminate of the polymeric component with another material. Adhesive silicone grease can be used to fill any air gap between the core and covering. Various combinations of the disc and conical shaped shields and flash-over protection disc are possible on the same insulator.
