Abstract
1322429 I.C. engine valve gear FIAT SpA 23 July 1971 [7 Aug 1970] 34594/71 Heading F1B The respective cylinder heads 5b on a bank of cylinders each have two inlet valves 7, 8 and an exhaust valve 9 with their axes arranged on opposite sides of the medial plane passing through the cylinder axis 2 and parallel to the crank-shaft axis 3. The valves 7, 8, 9 are operated by a camshaft 14, mounted in the cylinder block, through rockers 22, 23, 24 and the axes of the inlet valves 7, 8 and the axes of the inlet valve 8 and the exhaust valve 9 lie in planes respectively parallel and perpendicular to the medial plane. The induction and exhaust conduits 27, 28, 29, Fig. 5, extend substantially perpendicularly to the medial plane and a fuel injector 12 is mounted in the head 5b outside the valve gear cover (12a), Figs.3 and 4 (not shown). The injector axis 13 intersects the cylinder axis 2 at a point substantially coincident with the point of intersection of the cylinder axis and the plane 5, Fig.1, of the joint between the head and block and lies in a plane substantially bisecting the angle between the planes containing the axes of the valves 7, 8, 9. The inlet conduits 27, 28 extend substantially tangentially with respect to the inlet ports 30, 31 to promote turbulence in the air entering the cylinder 1. The rockers 22, 23, 24 are mounted on respective shafts supported in brackets 35, 36, 37, 38 mounted on the head. (For Figures see next page)
