Abstract

1435958 Two-stroke engines BRUNSWICK CORP 24 Oct 1973 [17 Nov 1972] 49557/73 Heading F1B A baffle 13 on the piston 11 to direct air or mixture from main inlet ports 6, 7, 8 is arranged between the main inlet ports and exhaust ports 9. Auxiliary inlet ports 16, 17 are located on the exhaust port side of the baffle to the main inlet port side of a plane 18 bisecting the cylinder between the main inlet and exhaust ports. The ports 6 and 8 formed in a liner 14 or the cylinder block 1 may have top edges, Fig. 5 (not shown), perpendicular to the cylinder axis and defining sharp edges (22) with recesses 21 at the downstream end of the transfer passage 2. The passage 2 has a constriction 26 in the path to the ports 6 and 8 and in the path to the port 7 is inclined to the cylinder axis in the same direction as the upper and lower edges 15 of the port 7. The ports 16, 17 communicate with the crank-case 4 through recesses in the cylinder wall and holes 20 in the piston 11 and the upper ends of the recesses are defined by part spherical surfaces (19), Fig. 4 (not shown), below the top edges of the ports 6 and 8. Two auxiliary ports may be provided adjacent each end of the baffle 13, Fig. 6 (not shown). The baffle 13 may be convex or concave.
