Abstract
1322353 Mixing falling streams BRITISH CAST IRON RESEARCH ASSOCIATION 15 Nov 1971 [18 Aug 1970] 39659/70 Heading B1C [Also in Divisions B3 and B8] Apparatus for mixing sand pressurised with resin and sand premixed with a catalyst for supply to a core or mould box comprises a pair of synchronously-rotatable members or tables 1 located on opposite sides of a mixing chamber 3. The tables 1 each have a plurality of batching chambers 4a which, on rotation of the tables 1, move into and out of register with a pair of openings in opposite sides of the mixing chamber 3. Sand hoppers 6 feed respectively the sand and resin and the sand premixed with catalyst to the batching chambers. When two chambers are full they are closed off by shutters 8 and the two batches of sand are blown via nozzles 5 into the mixing chamber 3 by compressed air supplied via pipes 9 and controlled by a common valve. The chamber 3 includes rods 10 depending from its top closure and conveying inclined plates 11 which have corrugated surfaces and ensure effective mixing of the charges. The air is then cut off, the shutters 8 raised and the tables 1 rotated to bring the next-filled pockets into alignment with the mixing chamber. When sufficient sand is provided in the blowing chamber (not shown) to fill the core box or mould box, the blowing chamber is sealed off and the core or mould is blown.
