Abstract
1,201,852. Core-making machines and processes. MEAD CORP. 26 July, 1968 [14 March, 1968], No. 35843/68. Heading B3F. A core-making process comprises forming at least two complementary core parts which are to be joined together by matching surfaces. The moulding material adjacent the matching surfaces is compressed to a lesser degree than that in the rest of the core-parts. To assemble a core, the core parts are mated along their matching surfaces and compressed together to bond them. A core-box 13 is filled with green sand and a mandrel 16 (Fig. 4) mounted on a presser plate 17 is forced into the green sand to form a core half (10), the sand at the core-box periphery 28 being less compressed than that at the base of the core. Teeth 34 are formed on the core halves to facilitate accurate matching. The core-box 13 is transported by a conveyer 26, inverted and matched with another core-box 14 containing another core-part. The two core-boxes 13, 14 are pressed together thereby forming a single hollow core which is removed from the core-box 14 by blowing compressed air through a duet (38) in the core-box wall.
